Pureed freshly cut sweet, juicy watermelon a splash of lime, a sprig of mint and a pinch of salt to make sweet sweeter. A shot of vodka or a sparkling water is all this summertime drink calls for.
Watermelon Cocktail For Adults
Summertime sips are the best, simply because it’s hot and anything cold and refreshing makes a hot day delicious. I can’t think of any summer fruit that lends itself to the perfect summertime sip than WATERMELON!
When freshly cut watermelon is pureed, it takes on the luscious appearance of a slushy and that’s without adding any ice! Toss in a few ice cubes and you may find yourself sipping on this drink all day.
Vodka was the alcohol of choice in this cocktail simply because it compliments the watermelon best without competing with its flavor.
Refreshing Watermelon Mocktail For Everyone
Who needs booze when this watermelon slushy makes for the perfect mocktail that anyone can sip on throughout the day. If the watermelon has been chilled in the fridge, very little ice, if any, is needed for this refreshing sip, but by all means, add a little crushed ice to keep it cold, or keep it cold in a liter size thermos pitcher and you’ve got a great drink for the day!
Watermelon’s Health Properties
Summertime heat calls for extra hydration and let’s face it, we can only manage to drink just so much water throughout the day. Watermelon to the rescue! Watermelon is not only delicious but it is 92 percent water which also helps replenish electrolytes lost when sweating.
Getting children to drink enough water, especially during summer’s heat, is not always easy but the refreshing sweetness of watermelon with a splash of lime and a pinch of salt will keep their little bodies beautifully hydrated, which is a good thing when they might be in a pool all day and not realize they are dehydrating in the heat.
This watermelon drink happened by accident, for me. I was making one of my favorite summertime salads, Watermelon Feta Salad, and wanted to make cut-outs with the melon, star cut outs because it was a holiday celebration. Left behind on the watermelon rind was all this luscious sweet, juicy watermelon. Toss it? Heck no, well actually yes! I tossed all the leftover pieces into the blender and this cocktail was created!
How To Make Refreshing Watermelon Drinks
While making a refreshing watermelon drink from freshly cut watermelon would be my first choice, sometimes there is just so much fruit in the watermelon. So, I cut into cubes, transfer to an airtight container and freeze the watermelon. When ready for a quick cocktail, mocktail or a smoothie, simply toss the frozen cubes in the blender with a splash of lime and a pinch of salt and the drink is ready!
Rum is also a splendid alcohol to add to this drink, but rum does have a definite flavor, so perhaps toss a few other summer fruits into the blender with the watermelon and make an all-out tropical drink!
