Homemade Mini Sliders with Soft Homemade Slider Buns
There’s something irresistible about food served in miniature. These homemade mini sliders deliver everything you love about a great burger, juicy beef, lamb, or turkey, soft fresh-baked buns, and your favorite toppings, but in perfectly sized two-bite portions that guests can enjoy without ever needing a knife and fork.
Whether you’re planning a wedding reception, football watch party, backyard gathering, holiday buffet, or family celebration, these homemade mini sliders disappear almost as quickly as they’re served. My son, who works in professional catering, tells me these are among the first appetizers guests reach for when they’re passed on elegant trays during cocktail hour.
Tiny Burgers That Make a Big Impression
Making both the slider patties and the soft homemade buns from scratch transforms an everyday burger into something memorable. Freshly baked bread buns have a delicate texture that store-bought versions simply can’t match, while perfectly seasoned meat of choice keeps every bite juicy and satisfying.
Small enough to serve with one hand and hearty enough to satisfy hungry guests, these homemade mini sliders prove that sometimes the smallest dishes create the biggest memories.

Easy to Customize
Offer a toppings bar so everyone can build their favorite combination, from classic American cheeseburgers to gourmet Mediterranean-inspired sliders.
Ingredients and Tools You’ll Need
Homemade Mini Sliders with Homemade Slider Buns Ingredients and Why They Matter
For the Homemade Slider Buns
- Bread Flour – Bread flour develops the gluten needed for soft yet sturdy buns that won’t become soggy.
- Yeast – Active yeast creates a light, fluffy texture and beautiful rise.
- Milk – Warm milk enriches the dough, creating exceptionally soft rolls.
- Butter – Butter adds richness while helping produce a tender crumb.
- Egg – Egg contributes both structure and color while giving the buns a bakery-quality finish.
- Sugar – Just enough sugar feeds the yeast and adds a subtle sweetness that complements the savory burgers.

For the Slider Patties
- Ground Beef – An 80/20 blend offers the best balance of flavor and juiciness, or other preferred ground meat (lamb, venison, turkey)
- Salt and Pepper – Simple seasoning allows the beef flavor to shine.
- Worcestershire Sauce – Adds savory depth and enhances the natural richness of the meat.
- Fresh Garlic and Chopped Onion – A small amount adds another layer of flavor without overpowering the burger.

Simple Tools You’ll Need
- A Mixing bowl is where everything begins, giving you space to gently combine the meat, aromatics, and herbs without overworking them.
- A Blender comes in handy for quickly breaking down onions, garlic, or herbs if you prefer a smoother, more uniform texture in your patties.
- Mixing spoon (or your hands, honestly) helps bring the mixture together.
- Cast iron griddle pan or frying pan is ideal, it holds heat beautifully and gives the sliders that deeply flavorful, golden crust.
- Metal spatula makes flipping easy and keeps the patties intact.
- Knife – essential for prep.
- Biscuit cutter or round cookie cutter ensures evenly sized slider that cook uniformly and look just as good as they taste.
- Stovetop or a grill, depending on the guest size you are cooking for, though the burgers can be seared on the outside and finished in the oven if cooking for a large gathering.
- Oven – if making your own buns.

How to Make Homemade Mini Sliders
Step 1: Prepare the Dough – Mix the dough ingredients and knead until smooth and elastic. Allow the dough to rise until doubled in size.
Step 2: Shape the Slider Buns – Divide the dough into evenly sized portions and gently shape into smooth balls. Arrange on a baking sheet, leaving room for expansion.
Step 3: Let Them Rise Again – Cover loosely and allow the buns to become puffy before baking.
Step 4: Bake Until Golden – Brush with egg wash if desired and bake until lightly browned. Cool completely before slicing.
Step 5: Form the Slider Patties – Divide seasoned ground beef into small equal portions. Shape slightly wider than the buns since they’ll shrink during cooking.
Step 6: Cook the Burgers – Cook over medium-high heat until browned on both sides and cooked to your preferred doneness. Add cheese during the final minute if using.
Step 7: Assemble the Sliders – Layer burgers onto the homemade buns and finish with your favorite toppings and sauces.
Step 8: Serve Immediately – Arrange on a platter or serve on trays for parties, weddings, and cocktail gatherings.

What Exactly Is A Slider?
If you’ve ever watched the cartoon Popeye as a kid, you already know what a slider is, even if you didn’t have a name for it yet. Wimpy, with his soft hat and endless appetite, was famous for polishing off tiny burgers stacked high on a plate, each one disappearing in just a bite or two.
Those cartoon miniature burgers, felt mythical at the time, though they dated back to the 1940’s and became famous through one of America’s earlier fast food restaurants called White Castle. Like Wimpy’s beloved burgers, sliders invite indulgence, not because they’re excessive, but because they’re irresistibly approachable.

- Large mixing bowl
- Stovetop griddle
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground meat meat of choice
- 1 Onion pureed
- 2 Garlic cloves pureed
- 1 tbsp Fresh Herbs – Marjoram, Thyme or Oregano finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp Coarse salt
- 1 tsp Olive oil
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 8 Slider Buns Homemade
Instructions

- For Slider Patties
- Place the pureed onion and garlic in a large bowl
- Add the ground meat, herbs and salt.
- Knead the mixture over and over again, as you would dough until almost paste-like. This helps them to stay together when cooked and not fall apart when served.
- Using a biscuit cutter, the same size as the bun you will serve them on, pack the ring tight with the meat mixture then transfer each to a tray.
- Heat the pan you will cook on. Add oil and butter and quickly place the burgers in the pan. About 5 minutes on each side, depending on how thick you formed them, and the burgers are ready.
- If using a grill, melt the butter and add to the olive oil. Use this to brush across the grill grates.

Robin – love all your tips here! When not grilling, I love using my cast-iron for burgers (and anything else, tbh), and I toast the buns using the Bagel setting of my toaster! That way it’s kind of like grilling them, since only the inside is toasted! I love a good slider, too!
