With or without rum this Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktail with lime, is the most refreshing icy drink you will sip, all summer long!
Frozen Strawberry Mocktail
It all started on a hot May afternoon when I visited a local ‘Pick Your Own’ strawberry patch (wish I could grow them that well), and loaded up on baskets of juicy strawberries.
While sorting out my treasures for lots of delicious recipes I chopped a handful of sweet strawberries and put them in the freezer thinking a smoothie later would be nice.
By the end of the day, I had forgotten my strawberries were in the freezer, which is when the experiment occurred.
Frozen Mocktails With Less Calories
Obviously, we know that many cocktails are made with a simple syrup, but I wanted to create a healthier mocktail with less calories.
Especially since I wasn’t planning to add booze, which has lots of sugary calories already.
I wanted to enjoy a healthier frozen drink that I could sip plenty of.
A few drops of stevia liquid, lots of lime, a splash of sparkling water, which makes for lots of refreshing summer sips, and my frozen strawberries became my new favorite summer sip!
Eventually I began to try other frozen fruit mocktails by swapping out the strawberries for other favorite summer fruits, like watermelon!
Strawberry Daiquiri
Most often a daiquiri is made with rum, and while you can certainly add rum to this frozen mocktail, it’s really the refreshing frozen flavors that draw us to a daiquiri drink.
Afterall, if we add rum, vodka or other strong alcohol, we can’t drink many of these (or shouldn’t), and suddenly, the refreshing hydration our body needs, is reversed by the booze.
What Sweets To Add To A Frozen Fruit Mocktail
A word about stevia. Real stevia is not a chemical mix of unrecognizable ingredients.
It’s a plant, I never knew you could grow, until I tried and wow, it grows fast, tall and hearty!
The leaves are so sweet. All that is needed is to make an extract from the leaves by crushing a bundle of them, quick boil in a little water (not much), cool and steep as you would tea.
Then just use a little of that water in the blender when tossing in the frozen strawberries to puree; or instead, use honey or agave.
Frozen Mocktails
Ever had a slushy or a smoothie? A frozen mocktail is much like those drinks only with more ice and a splash of sparkling water.
Adding sparkling water, makes it more like a cocktail with effervescence, but without the booze.
Definitely try tossing in a handful of frozen fruit, like berries, pineapple, mango or any favorite fruit that is soft enough to freeze and puree, and you’ve got a great frozen mocktail!
Frozen Strawberry Mocktail
A frozen mocktail is definitely the way to go if you’ll be drinking all afternoon poolside, or boating. Also a delicious and healthy drink for the kids.
As we know, kids often become so busy playing in the pool during summer months that they don’t realize they are not hydrating.
A frozen mocktail is something they will want to drink, like a dessert!
A frozen strawberry mocktail is everything that would go in a frozen daiquiri, except the booze, therefore it is a hydrating drink!
How To Make Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri
Purchasing frozen strawberries in the store and keeping a stash on hand in your freezer is, of course, a smart idea.
Also a good idea, is chopping a bunch of fresh strawberries during strawberry season, and freeze small bundles for all the frozen drinks you want.
Into a blender goes the frozen strawberries, ice, lime juice and a little stevia water or honey. Whirl and whirl until it turns into a slushy.
Open the blender and add a splash of sparkling water at the end, whirl again quickly, and pour into any desirable glass you want, putting a slice of strawberry on the rim.
A fabulous drink to go along with a favorite summertime luncheon, like my Strawberry Salads!
Strawberries Of Springtime
While May is usually when strawberry picking season begins in most areas across America, strawberries are available much of the year.
Make a special gathering for family and friends to celebrate some wonderful ways to enjoy strawberries, sweet or savory.
An easy Strawberry Salad with fresh spinach, feta cheese and either bacon or smoked salmon with a Homemade Bread of your choice (from my huge selection) is all this special meal needs!
Obviously, there are many desserts to make with strawberries, too many to name though here are a few of my favorites.
- Vegan Frozen Strawberry Dessert – with nuts, seeds, honey, coconut milk and a banana for creaminess
- Strawberry Shortcake – of course, but made into a healthier version
- Strawberry Tarts – individual 3-bite size fruit tarts
- Strawberry Lemonade Popsicles – what would summer be without fresh fruit popsicles
Don’t forget that for every sweet recipe we can make with sweet fruit, there are almost equally as many savory recipes that showcase strawberries, like a Strawberry Vinaigrette.
