Healthy Kids

Fruit may be easy to get kids to eat.

However, veggies and other nutrients may not be.

Therefore we will simply hide them in a blender of creamy smoothies with fruit and crushed ice.

It’s a sneaky yet healthy trick this mom and grandma uses often!

Don’t tell your kids about Grandma’s Sneaky Meatballs, because they are loaded with hidden veggies and yet the kids don’t know it!

What Is A Smoothie?

Can you believe my British hubby asked me that question just recently? I was making treats for the grandchildren and asked if he too would like a smoothie.

Once I explained, of course he said yes!

Yesterday’s milkshakes have been replaced by today’s Health Smoothies, and wow are they fantastic!

The perfect breakfast, lunch, or after-school snack for children.

You would be amazed at the healthy ingredients you can hide in them.

Kinda like my Grandma’s Sneaky Meatballs! (wink)

A Fruit Smoothie Created Just For My Granddaughter

Kids Fruit Smoothies

This one was made just for my granddaughter, Rebecca.

She loves strawberries, and so with a few other yummy things in her smoothie, I was able to wow her with her very own Kids Smoothie.

The Secret To A Kids Health Smoothie

The trick, is to find out what a child does enjoy the taste of and make that the dominant ingredient in the smoothie.

I have one grandson that loves oranges, bananas and mangos, but not strawberries, so I simply use those ingredients in a way that makes their color visible.

I am careful not to ruin the color of the yellow/orange that is in mango, orange or pineapple with green things, which hide perfectly in most berries.

Instead, I swap out greens, like kale, for cauliflower, cucumbers and celery instead.

Healthy Smoothies To The Rescue For Cold and Flu Season

Cold and flu season is that little monster that sneaks up in at night, wakes the perfectly healthy child you just put to bed, and robs you of your sleep and a productive day the next  day.

Build your immunity on a daily basis, don’t wait to get sick, and those little monsters will know they aren’t welcome!

However, if cold or flu season hits your home, along with a health smoothie, you might also want a soothing Health and Wellness Popsicle!

Nut Allergy Concerns With Healthy Kids Smoothies

While many allergies may leave us as we grow older, nut allergies for children is one monster you do not want to have visit you!

Cashew milk, almond milk sometimes even coconut milk must be avoided when making smoothies for children.

Dairy and Oat Milk When Kids Have Nut Allergies

Simply use yogurt or dairy milk or even oat milk for a delicious and safe way to make children’s smoothies.

In this way, there is no fear and need for the EpiPen to be pulled out; but thank goodness we have them now, when needed.

If you are looking for protein from the nuts, but have a child with nut allergies, try using chia seeds instead.

They are loaded with protein, and they come in both black or white; white being easier to disguise in the smoothie.

How To Make A Healthy Kids Fruit and Veggie Smoothie

Firstly, you will want to decide, from an array of fruits you know your kids already like to eat. Secondly, you need to choose a few veggies you would like for them to eat.

Don’t worry, they will never know those veggies are in there.

It will be important stay in keeping with similar colors.

For instance; putting kale in with strawberries will tend to turn the overall color brown.

While that’s not very appealing, you could toss a sprinkle of cacao powder in, and poof… chocolate!

Finally, once you’ve chosen the ingredients, simply toss them all into the blender, adding a little ice and enough liquid to puree to a creamy drink.

If the mixture is to thick, simply add more liquid so it is easy to sip through a straw.
