Immune Support Citrus Health Hacks are for all seasons and for all immune support reasons using both the juice and oil rich skins of all citrus.
Citrus Hacks For The Health Of It
Aren’t you glad that citrus is easily available year round? Sometimes, though, there threatens to be a shortage if weather conditions have affected crops.
When this happens, I often buy a little extra, slice them thin, layer them in airtight containers and freeze them for future use.
Let’s not talk about the shortages of 2020 and the dreadful trips to the grocery store to buy a whole lot more than toilet paper.
Some of us really weren’t sure what to buy or how long we might be without.
Health Hacks For Difficult Times
What if the store is not accessible in a few weeks? Frozen food, and boxed food sections often empty quickly.
Then there were those who don’t usually buy items from those sections and prefer instead, to shop the perimeters of the grocery store, like me… you know, the fresh stuff!
I knew in the back of my, usually common sense mind, that many of the things I purchase fresh weekly were not going to last, like eggs.
I did discover how to Freeze Your Eggs! Brilliant!
The calm of my kitchen is what triggers my imagination and creativity. And so, I would like to share with you, many of the clever Health Hacks I have done with fresh items, for difficult times.
Citrus Hacks
First thing we will do with the extra citrus purchased for that ‘rainy day’ is slice all of the citrus thin. Then we will layer them neatly in sealable containers or plastic bags.
Being mindful to move them quickly to the containers, preserving as much of their juice as possible, and don’t throw those end pieces away.
Once the citrus is sliced and sealed, pop them into the freezer. They will freeze beautifully and be easy to use in a variety of ways over the weeks, maybe months, ahead.
Here are just a few things I know I will be using them for, and hope you will too.
Citrus For Immune Support
From homemade medicine, immune boost soup to several luscious healthy desserts, citrus is the primary ingredient in each of these citrus immune support recipes.
While I prefer to use the citrus in these recipes, as fresh as I can, I have found that the citrus I froze, works beautifully as well.
Wellness Popsicles
Wellness Popsicles. Sometimes when feeling feverish, we want something to cool us down.
These popsicles are made by extracting juice from citrus, simmering with ginger, honey and a chili pepper or two, cool and freeze.
Lemon Thyme Dressing
Lemon Thyme Dressing. With many meals in the days to come coming out of the freezer or box, you will want something refreshing to perk them up, particularly if you are cooking poultry or fish from the freezer.
This quick and easy dressing is great on anything, will last a week in the fridge, or a long time in the freezer
Orange Cake
Orange Cake. Orange Cake from frozen orange slices? Oh Yes!
This cake is ridiculously delicious; 3 whole oranges, skins and all, nuts, eggs and sugar, no flour! Think of marmalade and macarons, repurposed!
Kill Ur Cold
Kill Ur Cold. While this is fantastic for the common cold, it will greatly comfort the symptoms of a virus as well.
Toss a few slices of citrus in a large container of purified water, sip on it all day. Lots of vitamin C and natural oils from citrus, especially those found in lemon water.
Cough Soother
Cough Soother. One of the most uncomfortable aspects of a cold, flu or virus, is the cough. Nothing soothes a cough better than lemon and honey, but this cough syrup is on steroids!
A pot of seemingly trash, with end cuttings from a heap of citrus, a cluster of fresh oregano (fresh if possible, the stuff grows easily in a pot and isn’t easily killed), and raw honey is what makes this cough soother, fantastic!
Immune Boost Onion Soup
Immune Boost Onion Soup. This soup is made with so many immune boosters, lots of lemon included.
Many ingredients that (hopefully), have been stashed in the freezer, or are able to obtain easily at a local grocer.
Citrus Gelatin
Citrus Gelatin. Juice from any and all citrus you can get your hands on, gelatin for a bit of protein and to solidify these little gelee cups, with a luscious addition of coconut milk.
A perfectly refreshing, healthyish citrus dessert, which gives us something sweet to look forward to when feeling under the weather.
Immune Support and Concerns Of The Unknown
I am just as concerned, perplexed and angry about this disease that has threatened the peace and health of our everyday lives, as you are.
But, being the long-time, natural medicine guru, that I am, having been fascinated with the health powers in food sources, I am going to put everything I have ever learned, into practice now.
