It’s a Blue Moon. No, it’s a Blood Moon. In fact, it’s a Super Moon! This event that has not appeared to us in 152 years needs a cocktail dedicated to its splendor.
Blue Moon Cocktail came to me in a dream. Crazy I know, but the fierce energy being stirred by the universe, does some rather wild and noteworthy things to us.
It’s a simple cocktail, refreshing, spicy, and beautifully splashed with Blue Curacao, (a delightful orange flavored liquor).
Mix up a batch, take it outside this evening with company, and enjoy what remains of the magnificent bright sky!
- Vodka – 2 shots
- Blue Curacao – 1 shot
- Coconut milk – ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons for the simple syrup
- Sugar – 1 tablespoon
- Cardamom Seeds – 3
- Orange rind – for garnish, peeled in a ¼ wide strip and speared with a kabob stick
- Small pan
- Ice – ½ cup
In a small hot pan, lightly toast the seeds, crushing them as they warm. Sprinkle sugar across the seeds, stir, and watch closely so as not to burn. Pour 2 tablespoons of coconut milk into the pan and remove quickly from heat. Stir, strain, and set aside for cocktail time.
Place ice in a shaker cup. Add vodka, curacao, spicy simple syrup, and coconut milk. Give a good shake, pour, and place orange rind garnish across the top.
I love using a shaker cup because it keeps the cocktail cold and, is easy to transport along with 2 glasses.
Blue Moon, Blood Moon, Super Moon party time! See you again in 152 years… Yeah right! (wink)
